Summary
• Provides counseling and support for patients suffering from drug or alcohol dependency. Educate families in the best ways to support with the recovery process. Works with both inpatient and outpatient clients.
Responsibilities
• Meets with clients to obtain personal history, substance abuse history, and medical history
• Consults with the care team or other professionals as necessary to discuss the patients status, needs, and progress
• Utilizes a combination of individual and group counseling sessions. Observes the patients in these settings for signs of readiness to accept help and guidance
• Modifies the treatment program as needed to meet the individual needs of the patient using knowledge of drug and alcohol dependency and counceling/ treatment methods
• Meets with family members to educate them on the most helpful role they can play in the recovery process
• Educates patients about community based programs such as Alcholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous as well as social services and employment services that may help to restore a client to a more productive role in the community
• Documents observations including readiness for help, obstacles to overcome,and progress for each patient
• Identifies and assists patients in coping with family problems and recommends social services as support for the family unit
• Demonstrates a mature, disciplined, and tactful approach to completing work duties
• Respects and maintains the confidentiality of the patients record
• Adheres to department and hospital policies and procedures

• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Required
o High School Diploma or GED
o Must be enrolled in college and working toward a degree by taking at least 1 course per semester
o
o Within 6 months of hire completes the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training course
o Must have no history of drug or alcohol abuse, gambling addiction, or been on parole or probation for the previous 2 years
Preferred
o Current Basic Life Support/Cardiopulmonary Resusitation for healthcare providers
