We are seeking a mission-driven Addiction Psychiatrist to serve in our Outpatient Substance Use Disorders Clinic, part of a nationally respected VA system committed to veteran-centered care. You’ll work alongside a robust team of 49 psychiatrists, supervise eager resident physicians, and engage in meaningful academic partnerships. Our practice is structured to give you time to do your best work. Position Highlights: Outpatient-focused practice treating veterans with substance-use disorders. Manage 10–15 patients per day with 60-minute initial evaluations and 30-minute follow-ups.  Academic Affiliations: Work closely with trainees from UCI, UCR, and Charles Drew University, with opportunities for faculty appointments. Enjoy the intellectual energy of academic psychiatry — without the usual overload. Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00–16:30 or 4-day compressed workweek available. Call Schedule: Light call—weekend coverage only 1–2 times/year. Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen M.D. or D.O. (Schools of Medicine Accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association). Foreign medical graduates must be verified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completed Residency Training. Preferred:  Board Certifications in Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry Medicine. Recent or upcoming new grads are welcomed and encouraged to apply - Mentorship  provided. Comprehensive Total Rewards Benefits Package, we offer the following: Competitive Starting Annual Salary:  Additionally, employees may be eligible to receive up to $15,000 in performance-based pay annually. Furthermore, employees can qualify for Proficiency Awards, which are available in addition to Pay for Performance incentives. Regular salary reviews will occur every two years, and all employees will receive cost-of-living adjustments annually. Education Debt Reduction Program: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Continuing Education: As a VA physician, you can earn CME credits at no cost. You can receive $1,000 or more annually and five days of paid absences to attend CME courses (conditions apply). Paid Time Off: You will receive 208 hours or approximately 26 days of annual leave a year. Unlimited accumulation of paid sick time and 11 paid federal holidays will begin accruing upon entry. Liability Protection: VA physicians are covered under federal tort laws and may be defended by the United States against allegations of malpractice or negligence. Life Insurance: Plan for what’s next with Federal Employees Group Life Insurance, which is group term life insurance covering you and eligible family members. Pension: Your basic annuity is computed based on your length of service and “high-3” average salary and becomes vested in the Federal Employee Retirement System, Basic/Defined Benefit pension after only 5 years of creditable civilian service. Thrift Savings Plan: A Federal 401k Equivalent with 5 % agency match. Allowing you to contribute up to $23,500 annual elective deferral to your account. Become vested after only 3 years of creditable civilian service.
