Overview:
New Haven Community Schools is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Student Behavior Interventionist & Online Learning Coordinator. This role will serve our 5th-8th grade face to face students at Endeavour as well as the 6th-12th grade online students
Role Summary:
The Student Behavior Interventionist & Online Learning Coordinator is an educational leader dedicated to creating a supportive and structured learning environment for both in-person and virtual students. This individual will collaborate with administrators, teachers, and other school stakeholders to ensure high academic and behavioral standards, while fostering a genuine sense of belonging for all students. This is a 196 day position.
Key Responsibilities:
Online Learning Responsibilities:
Lake Huron Virtual and Hybrid School is an alternative virtual program for students in grades 6-12, providing flexible learning options to meet diverse student needs.
- Partner with My Virtual Academy and collaborate closely with the Director of School Partnerships, Enrollment Specialists, and Pupil Accounting team.
- Create and present virtual student orientation sessions.
- Approve or deny incoming applicants.
- Coordinate with the New Haven Pupil Accountant to verify paperwork and eligibility requirements.
- Work with the New Haven Special Education Director to determine best practices for providing 504/IEP services.
- Create student schedules and enter grades in PowerSchool each semester.
- Enter attendance in PowerSchool
- Monitor mentor contacts and student progress, attending Performance Improvement Process (PIP) meetings.
- Oversee potential graduation status, review credentials, and approve student graduations.
- Order diplomas and plan graduation ceremonies.
- Coordinate testing for M-Step, PSAT, SAT, and WorkKeys, including scheduling students in BAA, ordering testing materials, scheduling testing dates/locations/proctors, and facilitating testing.
- Prepare documents and reports for auditing purposes and assist with state and federal reports.
- Travel to Clair, Lapeer, Huron, Sanilac, and Tuscola counties to administer state testing.
Behavior Interventionist Responsibilities :
- Supervise and support 5th-8th grade students. Occasionally may need to work with a younger child if behavior is extreme.
- Assist the Principal in resolving discipline problems and maintaining records of actions taken, ensuring the discipline policy is administered fairly.
- Collaborate with faculty to enforce and implement the student code of conduct.
- Support the Principal in developing, distributing, and orienting students to the student handbooks.
- Oversee student attendance matters, coordinate with truancy officials, and provide necessary testimony in judicial proceedings.
- Implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
- Maintain records in PowerSchool and prepare attendance and discipline reports.
- Supervise co-curricular activities as requested by the Principal.
- Develop behavior plans for students in coordination with staff and parents.
- Provide before and after school supervision.
- Coordinate detentions and in-school suspensions.
- Perform other tasks as directed by the Building Administrator or Superintendent.
Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate or background in school counseling/social work required.
- School Administrator Certification a plus.
- 5 years of prior school experience preferred.
- Ability to relate positively with students, teachers, and parents.
- Experience working with at-risk and diverse student populations.
- Evidence of the ability to establish working relationships that result in mutual respect.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of federal and state mandates.
- Willingness to accept professional challenges to improve opportunities for students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals.
- Strong interpersonal and public relations skills.
- Ability to travel to Clair, Lapeer, Huron, Sanilac, and Tuscola counties.
