Job Description - Clinical Counselor

Department: Clinical

Direct Report to: Clinical Program Director

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Clinical Counselor will provide all aspects of clinical treatment, ensuring high-quality care and full program compliance. The Clinical Counselor will be responsible for managing case load, following regulatory standards, and fostering an environment of continuous improvement in treatment outcomes.

SCOPE:

Under the immediate supervision of the Clinical Counselor is responsible for each component of the client's treatment planning from admission through discharge, including all programmatic implementation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 years post-licensure experience in chemical dependency treatment.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading clinical teams in a residential substance abuse treatment setting.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance (local, state, federal accreditations, insurance contracts) is required.
  • Proven ability to work with a multidisciplinary treatment team and implement evidence-based strategies for optimal client outcomes.
  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency with EMR systems.
  • Active First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and ability to provide own insured transportation.
  • Must be able to commute to Georgetown, TX 78626 or relocate.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide clinical treatment from admission to discharge, ensuring compliance with all accreditations, referral, and insurance requirements.
  • Documentation within the EMR system.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and confidentiality of substance use disorder client records in accordance with 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Pre-authorize admissions, providing necessary medical necessity documentation for residential treatment.
  • Maintain a manageable caseload (5-8 clients) while adhering to cultural humility, ethical treatment practices, and maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulatory standards, including Joint Commission, and other accreditation bodies.
  • Review and sign off on admissions, assessments, treatment plans, and discharge summaries, ensuring thorough and accurate documentation.
  • Provide in-service training to staff, including addressing Joint Commission requirements and fostering professional development.
  • Perform regular audits of client documentation in the EMR system to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate clinical team schedules, including on-call rotations and holiday/PTO assignments.
