About Job

Objective: Supervise the preparation and service of meals in accordance with established standards of nutrition, health, and sanitation. Ensure that all meals provided meet the nutritional, cultural, and dietary needs of women and their children, promoting healthy well-being through nutrition education and support. Oversee administrative tasks related to food service, including accurate documentation and maintenance of records in compliance with applicable regulations, such as CACFP. Collaborate with program staff to support other activities that enhance the overall well-being of domestic violence survivors and their dependent children, fostering a safe and nurturing environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Attend all-staff meetings and seminars mandated by agency.
  • Direct supervision, training, and evaluation of food service staff and substitutes.
  • Plan and assign work schedules for food service staff and ensuring preparation of high quality, nutritional food on a daily basis.
  • Plan and supervise routine cleaning and maintenance schedules for the main kitchen and kitchen equipment.
  • Assign and verify weekly inventory of food and supplies.
  • Ensure that safety, sanitation and health standards are met by food service staff.
  • Provide related training to food service staff including program rules involving meal patterns, recordkeeping requirements and sanitation.
  • Respond efficiently and appropriately to unexpected staff shortage, equipment malfunctions etc.
  • Review daily menu.
  • Maintain records of food and supply purchases.
  • Plan and distribute weekly menus
  • Provide any and all shelter support as directed by Supervisor, Program Director, Executive Director or Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Nutrition, Food Service Management, or a related field (required).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory role in a food service environment (required).
  • Prior experience working with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines and requirements (preferred).

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of CACFP regulations, including meal pattern requirements, portion sizes, and recordkeeping.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and HACCP principles.
  • Ability to plan, develop, and implement menus that comply with CACFP guidelines and meet the nutritional needs of the served population.
  • Knowledge of dietary restrictions and special dietary needs.
  • Ability to efficiently train and supervise kitchen staff and manage the daily operations of the Food Service Department

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with basic computer programs, including Word, Excel, and email (required).
  • Ability to maintain accurate records for audits and compliance (required).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other staff members, program directors, and regulatory agencies.
