JOB DESCRIPTION: The Certified School Counselor reports to the Certified School Counselor Coordinator in all related guidance functions and provides student services, career and academic advisement, and academic and personal guidance counseling, with the ultimate goal of providing each student with the opportunity to meet requirements of graduation.
REQUIREMENTS: A Masters degree, or higher, with a minimum of three years teaching experience preferred, appropriate Florida Department of Education certification for the position, with effective oral, written and personal communication skills; adaptability to change; ability to work with parents, students, teachers, military, higher education personnel, and administration; knowledgeable in pupil progression, graduation requirements, alternative acceleration and remediation type programs; ability to transcribe student transcripts into the FLDOE format; perform scheduling adjustments in the best interest of the student, and the ability to relate to any child in a non-judgmental and caring manner.
DUTIES: Assists the Guidance Coordinator in meeting departmental goals and mandates, with responsibility for specific duties, consisting of, but not limited to the following:
- Promotes and provides Establishes a “student friendly”, “student focused” welcome center
- Provides student-focused guidance services
- Conducts and participates in meetings relative to the duties of this department
- Assists with testing coordination
- Disseminates appropriate information to students and staff
- Performs student and teacher consultation
- Keeps abreast of current guidance related concerns
- Supports and complies with department rules and procedures
- Attends appropriate workshops
- Participates in the weekly parent conference schedule
- Facilitates conferences related to the position
- Assists with student scheduling and coordinates schedule changes
- Performs assigned guidance department responsibilities
- Represents the school and department at community-related/sponsored activities and events
- Performs classroom guidance activities
- Assists with creating a Master Schedule
- Performs senior credit check sessions
- Provides information and assistance regarding scholarships and post-secondary educational opportunities
- Conducts S_tudent Assessment Literacy P_lan (SAL-P) activities
- Assists in graduation activities and other student activities as assigned
- Establishes and maintains an open line of communication with students, parents and staff
- Participates “Guidance/Parent” night activities
- Supports the school’s Mission and Vision
- Performs other duties as assigned
SALARY: Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $53,200.00 - $67,900.00 per year
