TITLE: Music Therapist

Reports to: Director of Special Education

Job Goal: To provide direct and consultative services for children with disabilities that impact student learning within the realm of MusicTherapy

Qualifications: Valid Kansas Music Therapy License

Performance and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Music Therapy screenings according to established state and federal professional standards and procedures
  • Complete and written comprehensive diagnostic evaluations according to established state and federal professional standards and procedures
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team conferences and planning sessions in order to meet the continuing needs of identified students
  • Assist in develop Individualized Education Programs for identified students.
  • Provide Music Therapy services using a variety of service delivery models within a collaborative team to address the music therapy needs of the student
  • Complete documentation through progress notes and quarterly reports that specify student progress on IEP goals and objectives
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and parents including parent/teacher conferences to ensure a unified approach to school-related issues
  • Other duties as assigned

Critical Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to possess and maintain licensure in the state of Kansas
  • Ability to speak clearly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner
  • Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers
  • Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice
  • Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and helpful manner
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software on district computer system and communication equipment
  • Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines
  • Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others
  • Knowledge and expertise in research based therapy and evaluation methods
  • Knowledge and experience of intervention based service delivery models
  • Knowledge of federal and state legislation

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation

Salary: Certified salary schedule + Fringe benefits

The tasks listed in this position description are subject to change at the discretion of the superintendent. The incumbent is expected to take on other duties as requested or assigned by his/her supervisor.
