PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The clinical professional is responsible for facilitating admissions, conducting clinical intake assessments, and managing utilization review processes to ensure continuity of care at the most appropriate level, optimizing patient benefit and resource utilization.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Respond to inquiries about the facility within established policy timeframes.
- Develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Perform benefit eligibility checks to confirm active patient benefits at admission, and communicate this information to the business office and the patient or family.
- Collaborate with medical and psychiatric personnel to ensure appropriate referral recommendations.
- Coordinate admissions and transfers from referral sources and between levels of care within the facility.
- Maintain knowledge of milieu management.
- Promptly communicate projected admissions to internal teams.
- Ensure receipt of all clinical information from referral sources or patients prior to admission when possible.
- Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consult with admitting physicians, and communicate disposition recommendations to patients or families.
- Prepare and maintain accurate medical records to secure authorization from payors for the requested level of care.
- Complete initial pre-authorizations for treatment and admission within payor timeframes whenever possible.
- Admit patients into the registration and accounting systems, completing all necessary forms with the patient.
- Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards customers, working to resolve complaints and prioritizing patient safety.
- Coordinate care for non-admitted patients, ensuring appropriate follow-up and referrals.
- Demonstrate urgency in addressing patient safety concerns and provide excellent customer service.
- Conduct safety checks and supervise patients at 15-minute intervals or as per individualized guidelines.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a social services field required (if permitted by state).
- Master's degree in a social services field (psychology, counseling, social work, sociology, health administration, nursing) or RN preferred.
- One or more years of experience in mental/behavioral health in a clinical or observational role preferred.
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Current licensure as required for the clinical specialty (e.g., RN license, CAC, or other therapy license as per state requirements).
- CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training provided upon hire).
- First aid certification may be required based on state or facility policies.
