THIS IS A TEMPORARY FULL TIME COUNSELOR POSITION
COMPENSATION:
Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425. A District-paid comprehensive benefit package which includes medical, dental and vision insurances for the employee and dependents, and a $50,000 employee life insurance policy are provided. Representative Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Counseling Responsibilities
- Counseling and Advising students to develop comprehensive individualized program plans.
- Assist in the organization and implementation of matriculation services, including probation and dismissal activities.
- Participating in development and implementation of strategies and materials to increase student retention, completion, and transfer rates.
- Administering and interpreting educational, vocational, and personal assessment instruments.
- Presenting workshops on a variety of topics.
- Teaching guidance classes in career planning, transfer, re-entry, and academic success.
- Demonstrating sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues.
- Promoting the success of a diverse student population through the use of effective counseling/advisement methods, models, and strategies and through the use of effective teaching methodologies.
- Effectively using current information technologies.
- Participating in program and curriculum development.
- Participating in staff development activities.
- Serving on area and college wide committees as necessary to support and enrich college programs, activities, and initiatives.
- Complying with all Title 5 program requirements and District policies and procedures in the performance of all duties.
- Planning, coordinating, and preparing a budget for Transfer Center activities (workshops, university representative visits, transfer admission application assistance, university campus visits.
- Serve as college liaison with university representatives to support transfer related activities and partnerships.
- Writing annual Program Review, including assessment of service area outcomes.
- Writing annual Transfer Center Report.
- Participating in the articulation process.
- Provide counseling faculty peers updates, training, and consultation on transfer related topics.
- Performing related duties as assigned.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent.
(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the above listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- California Community College Transfer Center experience.
- California State University or University of California transfer admission experience.
Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations.
