Language Interpreter

Under the direction of the Director of International Services, the Interpreter/Care Coordinator provides several services to promote full accessibility to BMS medical services for specified populations of non-English speaking patients and their families. These include, but are not limited to, interpreting, health care coordination, information/ referral, and outreach efforts in the applicable Language Community.

Essential Functions:
  • Interprets accurately for BMS providers and non-English speaking patients/family members of the specified language groups.
  • Provides accurate interpretation and communication of information (referral information, billing, medical procedures/tests, etc.).
  • Contacts non-English speaking patients and accurately transmits messages from clinical teams via appropriate means.
  • Completes all bi-lingual tasks requested by the supervisor in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Assists with departmental outreach and community health education efforts
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 12+ months of professional interpreting experience preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in BOTH English and target language.
  • Basic computer skills
