About Job

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Community Outreach and Youth Director is responsible for creating and stewarding partnerships, programs and initiatives to aid in the elevation of the profile of the YMCA across its service area. This includes delivery of results, helping to raise funding for the programs, maximizing community impact, and creating opportunities for sharing the Y story in compelling ways.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensures programs and services meet community needs.

2. Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and supervise staff and volunteers in youth lounge, youth programs and outreach programs. Evaluate staff performance and develop strategies to keep staff motivated.

3. Oversee all Y on the Fly programming.

4. Oversee, manage and implement youth and family programs, birthday parties, home school gym, special events (Healthy Kids Day, Trunk or Treat, Family Fun Nights…) and the activities of the youth lounge.

5. Serve as support person in the youth lounge as needed.

6. Oversee, manage and implement and advance the program to add additional schools to the 7th grade initiative.

7. Oversee Leader's Club & Youth in Government, and develop new youth and family programs.

8. Create successful special events within the Department and assist in the organization and implementation of other special events for the Association.

9. Ensure quality and maintain program areas in regard to equipment safety, inventory and cleanliness to include, the family locker room, Youth Lounge, gym, and other areas used in youth activities.

10. Establish collaborative relationships with schools and community organizations to create partnerships throughout Lawrence County.

11. Monitor and evaluate program statistics for their effectiveness and program participation.

12. Be pro-active in securing grants for Youth and Family activities.

13. Organizes outreach events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.

14. Oversee current community outreach programs such as Healthy Kids Day.

15. Assist Sports and Recreation Director with the Thanksgiving 5k.

16. Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for departments and takes appropriate action to correct variances.

16. Coordinate the volunteer program for the Association, to include working with Directors to identify volunteer needs and positions, and assisting Directors with recruitment, tracking hours and volunteer recognition.

17. Responsible for achieving targeted goals in the Annual Campaign.

18. All other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.

· Excellent relationship building skills coupled with critical thinking.

· Capable of analyzing and interpreting membership data trends.

· Must be able to multi-task, set priorities effectively and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

· Strong oral and written communication skills needed.

· Previous supervisory experience.

· Child abuse and Criminal background clearances.

· Current First Aid & CPR certifications.

· Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office.

· Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
