EL RANCHO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

SCHOOL COMMUNITY LIAISON

DEFINITION:

The School/Community Liaison will be responsible for all school community partnerships. The School Community Liaison will expand on existing relationships and cultivate additional relationships that will assist in providing resources for our at-risk youth. The School Community Liaison will work closely with students and families to identify and mitigate absences and tardies. The School Community Liaison will develop parent education classes for parents and guardians of students identified as chronic truants. The School Community Liaison will also support our foster/homeless students. The School Community Liaison will serve as an advocate for the targeted population, refer to district and community-based services, depending on the need (academic, mental health services, housing, food, transportation, clothing, and other essential items), as well as follow up on all referrals to make sure that all needs are addressed.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Work closely with School Site Administration, Attendance Clerks, SARB Data Processing Clerk, Mental Health Counselors, and Child Welfare and Attendance staff in identifying students with excessive absences and/or Chronic Truants; provide support services and referrals for foster/homeless students and families; maintain data for foster/homeless students in the district.

Report all necessary data to the Los Angeles County Office of Education and State and Federal Offices as required by grants; gather resources on parent empowerment and parent education on the effects of positive attendance; Coordinate, Lead, and Participate in all trainings and meetings related to student attendance and/or parent education; maintain data on attendance and training opportunities; provide reports to the Director and Mental Health Liaison; additional activities and responsibilities as directed by the Director of Student Services.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a valid California Driver’s License. Bilingual (Spanish/English) desirable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

A working knowledge of computer technology including Microsoft Word and Excel and excellent problem solving skills.

Ability To:

Must possess excellent oral and written skills as well as strong organizational skills; excellent communication skills; must be flexible, adaptable, and able to bring groups together for a common goal; willingness and ability to collaborate with classroom teachers, administrators and grant management team.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. AA/AS Degree preferred, but not required.
