We are seeking temporary help for an Everyday Adoption Center Specialist position through June 22nd to join our team! Our new Everyday Adoption Center (located within Petsmart on Coit Road) features adoptable dogs and cats from Operation Kindness. The adoption center includes kennels for dogs, enclosures for cats and a meet and greet playroom. Pet adoptions are available during store hours, 7 days a week.
This temporary position is 40 hours per week. The schedule is Saturday through Tuesday
We provide a fun and rewarding work environment with excellent benefits. Both weekend days and holiday availability is required. Spanish speaker a plus! Hourly employees receive time and a half pay if scheduled to work on 10 company designated holidays.

JOB TITLE: Everyday Adoption Center Specialist-Temporary
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Offsite Adoptions Manager and Everyday Adoption Center Lead
POSITION OVERVIEW: The EAC specialist processes adoptions and provides daily care for the shelter dogs and cats housed at PetSmart locations. This includes maintaining a clean and healthy environment for all shelter animals, following proper procedures for sanitation and disease prevention, showing available animals to potential adopters, and processing adoption contracts.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Responsibilities
- Providing exceptional customer service for potential adopters.
- Greets each client promptly and pleasantly.
- Thoroughly explains questionnaire and adoption process.
- Continually observes lobby area and ensures all client needs are met.
- Answers telephones in front lobby area.
- Checks voicemail and email and responds to or relays messages accordingly.
- Ensures lobby, desks, and Meet & Greet rooms are neat and organized.
- Ensures ample copies of required forms are readily available.
- Files questionnaires and other necessary forms.
- Transports shelter animals to/from the main shelter as needed.
- Assist in loading/unloading shelter vehicles when needed.
- Work alongside volunteers and other departments to ensure a positive and kind working environment.
- Wash, fold, and restock laundry.
- Sweeps and mops lobby floor.
- Dusts and cleans all surfaces in lobby and meet & greet rooms.
- Routinely wipes down high-touch surfaces such as phones, kiosks, door handles, etc.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of all shelter space, including storage areas and equipment maintenance.
- Closes financial books and deposits paperwork accordingly at the end of day.
- Transports adoptable cats to other Retail Adoption locations as needed.
- Attends and assists with Off Site Adoption events (including development events and Galleria) as needed including preparation of animals and supplies prior to the event, processing adoptions at the event, and break down of supplies post event.

Animal Care Feeds all animals in care twice daily according to the color-coded measuring system.
- Ensures that all animals always have access to fresh clean water.
- Be aware of special/prescription diets, special feeding instructions, and follow the directions laid out for them.
- Give medications as needed, following any prescription instructions.
- All dogs are walked and exercised regularly throughout the day, picking up any messes as they occur.
- Supervises small groups and pairs of dogs in the playroom each day.
- Rotates adult cats and age-appropriate kittens into their “catio” each day for exercise and socialization.
- Follows proper safety guidelines and training protocols when interacting with animals.
- Cleans and sanitizes all shelter animal enclosures and the kennel areas at PetSmart, following proper procedures for sanitation and disease prevention.
- Maintains cleanliness throughout the day by removing messes in a timely manner.
- Weekly rotating deep cleaning schedules, to sanitize kennel areas top to bottom.
- Cleans and sanitizes all food and water bowls.
- Spending time getting to know the animals in our care and socializing with them. This helps prepare them to meet potential adopters.
Showing, Counseling, and Processing Adoptions
- Reviews and verifies questionnaires for accuracy and completeness and uses it as a tool to facilitate adoption counseling.
- Matches potential adopters to available animals while providing necessary instruction and information.
- Helps make successful matches for adopter and pet.
- Shows and handles dogs and cats of all ages and sizes to potential adopters.
- Takes dogs of all sizes from enclosures to designated area for purpose of introducing to potential adopters.
- Maintains safe and responsible control of animals at all times.
- Completely reviews adoption documents with adopter.
- Enters all adoptions into Pet Point adoption software.
- Explains medical records and other pertinent pet information to adopter.
- Processes payment and accurately records payment information for each adoption.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Proven ability to speak, read, and write English fluently.
- Spanish speaking preferred.
- Minimum 6 months previous experience in Customer Service role.
- Basic computer knowledge (Internet, Microsoft Office).
- Experience working with animals or significant pet knowledge strongly preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Physical Requirements
- Requires occasional lifting and carrying animals and shelter materials weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires frequent walking and handling of dogs and cats of a variety of sizes and temperaments.
- Requires frequent and extended periods of standing and walking.
- Ability to drive company vans/vehicles.
- May be exposed to unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, and animal diseases.
