About Shefa:The Shefa School is a Jewish community day school in Manhattan serving students in grades K-8 who benefit from a specialized educational environment in order to develop their strengths while addressing their learning challenges. We specifically serve students with language-based learning disabilities who have not yet reached their potential levels of success in traditional classroom settings. About the Position:The Shefa School is seeking a full- or part-time psychologist or social worker to join our strong, collaborative and growing mental health team for a year-long leave position. This position will work in both our Lower and Middle Schools. The leave dates are August 18, 2025, through June 18 2025. If possible, the employee will be invited for a period of observation and training in May and/or June 2025.Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with and support the Lower School Social Worker and Middle School Psychologist
Consult with teachers on social-emotional-behavioral issues and classroom dynamics
Hold ad hoc meetings with students individually and in groups
Address conflicts and social issues as they arise
Run social skills groups and lunch groups
Provide referrals and collaborate with outside therapists and psychiatrists
Provide behavior management support and planning to teachers
Support Social-Emotional Learning programs
Participate in student case conferences
Lead case management
Teach weekly social skills classes
Assess, manage and share feedback about students’ behavior, attention, and social-emotional development
Communicate with and serve as a liaison to parents
Support crisis assessment and response
Participate On Committee On Special Education (CSE) ReviewsQualifications
NYS licensed or license-eligible clinical or school psychologist or social worker (LMSW or LCSW)
Aptitude for developing strong relationships with both lower elementary and middle school students
Expertise in behavioral interventions with children and families required
School Experience Strongly Preferred
