The Controller leads and managing the Finance and Accounting functions at Juut. The Controller provides comprehensive financial and operational insights to executive management, shareholders, and external stakeholders, enabling strategic and informed economic decisions. The role combines high-level strategic thinking, operational oversight, and leadership of the finance team to ensure robust financial management, compliance, and organizational effectiveness.

General Responsibilities:

The Controller will manage all aspects of corporate accounting, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, tax compliance, payroll, internal controls, risk management, and systems implementation. This role requires strategic leadership to enhance financial processes and controls, along with collaborative skills to interact effectively with senior leadership, external partners, auditors, and regulatory agencies.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Ensure all financial reporting and accounting activities comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), maintaining the highest standards of accuracy, transparency, and integrity.

2. Oversee and direct the activities of the corporate accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external financial and operational reports.

3. Lead and coordinate the annual budgeting and forecasting processes, providing strategic analysis and actionable recommendations to senior management.

4. Develop and maintain reliable cash flow forecasting systems, ensuring adequate liquidity and accurate reporting mechanisms to support operational and strategic objectives.

5. Manage and oversee payroll processing, including accurate calculations of employee bonuses, commissions, and payroll tax compliance.

6. Ensure timely and accurate processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchase orders, and employee expense reports.

7. Manage corporate tax compliance, including timely filing of all required corporate income tax returns and strategic use of applicable tax benefits.

8. Coordinate and oversee year-end financial audits, internal audits, and respond effectively to government agency audit requests.

9. Establish, document, and maintain robust internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with organizational guidelines and government regulations.

10. Evaluate, install, and oversee the implementation and modification of accounting systems and financial control procedures, ensuring data integrity and optimal system performance.

11. Prepare & analyze financial statements, general ledger accounts, and detailed information on assets, liabilities, and capital to provide accurate and insightful financial analysis.

12. Prepare and oversee weekly sales reporting and corresponding journal entries, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

13. Cultivate and maintain professional and strategic relationships with external business partners, including banking institutions, auditors, tax professionals, healthcare brokers, and 401(k) administrators through regular communication and meetings.

14. Educate and collaborate with department and Salon managers regarding financial management and budgeting processes, improving financial literacy and accountability across the organization.

15. Provide day-to-day leadership, including hiring, training, supervision, and professional development of accounting department staff, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance standards.

16. Take initiative and leadership in special projects and compile comprehensive special reports as required by executive leadership.

17. Promote a professional, courteous, and collaborative working environment, maintaining high standards of communication with internal and external stakeholders.


Qualifications:

    In-depth knowledge and expertise in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with proven ability to apply these standards accurately and consistently.

Education, Training, and Experience:

    Experience: A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. 

    Experience in public accounting and familiarity with GAAP standards are highly desirable. 

    Experience with hospitality industry accounting practices is preferred.

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred..

    Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is strongly preferred..

    Proficiency with financial technology and software (accounting software, Excel, ERP systems)


Physical Requirements:

    Ability to walk, sit, bend, and squat

    Frequent talking, hearing, and visual acuity at both close and distant ranges

    Extended periods sitting and working at computers
