Job Summary
The Staff Psychologist- Generalist will provide counseling services for MSU students; provide a clinical assessment of MSU students receiving counseling services; provides crisis response services for MSU students that need an immediate assessment; offers group counseling sessions to students; create, update and maintain the Counseling Center’s presence on the University Webpage and Social Media accounts.

Job Duties
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provides counseling services and clinical assessment for services received by MSU students.
  • Provides crisis response for MSU students needing immediate assessment.
  • Provide group, individual, and couples counseling to students. Also, provides consultations to faculty and staff.
  • Conducts outreach presentations and psycho-educational programming on mental health topics for a diverse population.
  • Rotates on call services with the Counseling Center staff.
  • Conducts in-person and tele-therapy services to clients
  • Must be able to perform all duties as assigned

Requested Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • The successful Candidate must have a Doctoral Degree in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology from an accredited College or University.
Experience:
  • A minimum of one year of experience working in a university or college counseling services department is required. Experience working with an ethnically and culturally diverse client population is also required.
  • The position requires previous supervisory experience.

  • Proficiency with timely completion of clinical documentation and administrative tasks
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and arithmetic; of UMS policies and procedures, and the institution’s purpose, goals, and procedures
  • General knowledge of and skill in the use of word processing, database, and spreadsheet software programs
  • Knowledge of ethical standards, relevant state and HIPAA laws regulating the privacy and confidentiality of health information, and mandated reporting statutes
  • Ability to project a professional and positive image; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to make effective oral presentations; to interact with students, public officials, and staff at all levels in a courteous and efficient manner
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute complicated and continuing assignments without instruction; to manage office operations and staff
