About Job

Summary:

The Drop-In Center at Foster Forward provides prevention and intervention services to youth who are runaway, homeless, or housing unstable and who have been subjected to, or are at-risk of being subjected to sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, and severe forms of trafficking. The Drop-In Center Peer Support Specialist welcomes all guests, provides essential resources, encourages engagement of youth and supports youth to accomplish their goals. Position hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am to 5pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Building authentic, caring, nonjudgmental and affirming relationships with young adults visiting the Drop-In Center.

· Welcoming guests into the Drop-in, providing a tour, explaining the resources available at the Center and helping to meet their immediate needs.

· Collecting intake information and obtaining a release of information for HMIS for any client new to the Drop-in; entering data into HMIS.

· Conducting crisis and housing assessments for Coordinated Entry.

· Obtaining items from the pantry for guests such as food items and hygiene products.

· Collaborating with FF case managers to meet client needs.

· Assisting guests with searching for housing, obtaining housing applications, and applying for benefits such as SNAP and the centralized wait list.

· Checking in with youth regularly about progress on their goals and how Foster Forward and other partners can support them.

· Daily preparation for the drop-in center to open and close; making sure the area is clean and supplies are stocked.

· Maintaining confidentiality of all guests at the Drop-In Center.

· Communicating when the Drop-in or bathroom need deep cleaning, etc.

· Taking inventory of pantry items and communicating when items are in low stock.

· Seek out and attend relevant trainings and events that enhance skills and bodies of knowledge

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

· Desire to support homeless youth and young adults in a fast-paced environment.

· Lived experience.

· Welcoming demeanor and strong communication skills.

· Familiarity with the housing market and related resources.

· Must be able to pass a background check.
