The mission of Alum Rock Counseling Center (ARCC) is to heal families and inspire youth to reach their full potential. For 50 years, ARCC has provided a wide range of behavioral health counseling and school-based support, designed to promote health equity & educational equity, and ensure that high-risk youth stay safe, in school, and drug & violence free. The agency supports a predominantly Latinx (83%) population in underserved schools and neighborhoods throughout Santa Clara County with a focus on the high-need area of East and Central San Jose. ARCC staff provide services to youth and caregivers who otherwise might struggle to afford and/or access quality care. In 2023-24, the agency served 5,000+ individuals, through 13 different programs, including individual and family counseling, substance use prevention education, youth mentoring, family reunification, parent training/support, and services in 30+ high-need schools.

We have 85 full-time employees and over 25 dedicated volunteers that make our program run. POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the programmatic supervision of the Outpatient Program Manager, the Therapist/Counselor II will provide Medi-Cal appropriate and approved individual therapy, rehabilitation, collateral, family therapy, and case management services to youth exhibiting and/or engaging in high-risk or delinquent behavior in a school based and/or community based settings. Employing evidence-based practices, Outpatient services are targeting high-risk youth ages 6-21. Offer intervention and supportive services to a culturally and linguistically diverse client base of children and youths exhibiting and/or engaging in substance use, gang involvement, poor school attendance, depression, and other delinquent behavior. This position may require travel to various school settings within the community. Services may be provided at elementary, middle, high school locations, community, clinic, and clients home.

Duties:

  1. Provide individual therapy, rehabilitation, case management, family therapy, collateral and supportive counseling within the community and/or ARCC clinic.
  2. Maintain Medi-Cal documentation and Medi-Cal appropriate client files and complete required paperwork including intake, psychosocial assessments, service plans, case notes, youth performance outcome forms, etc. within expected timeframe.
  3. Provide information and referral services to clients and/or families and monitor progress.
  4. Conduct follow-up contact for each client in a timely manner.
  5. Respond to client phone calls within 24 hours.
  6. Meet productivity expectations of agency and contract deliverables.
  7. Maintain an active caseload of 20-22 clients per week. If productivity expectations are not met, the program manager will increase caseload.
  8. Attend weekly meetings, weekly individual supervision, weekly group supervision, and weekly programmatic supervision, and training necessary for professional development and as required for the agency or its funding sources.
  9. Understand and adhere to the laws governing child abuse reporting.
  10. Administer evaluation surveys as required by contract.
  11. Complete PSC, CANS, YSS/YSS-F Surveys, and others within the required timeframe.
  12. Complete monthly audits and audit corrections within the deadlines.
  13. Maintain a healthy work relationship and boundaries with ARCC staff and partnering schools.
  14. Adhere to ARCC, Santa Clara County, and California policies and procedures.
  15. Perform other duties as necessary for the good of the agency and its clients and as assigned by the program manager.
  16. Receive referrals from other programs based on need and productivity expectations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in social work/psychology or related field, from an accredited college or university.
  • Registered with the California BBS as an ASW, AMFT, or APCC required.
  • Experience working with diverse ethnic/cultural backgrounds.
  • Experience working in diverse settings.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English Preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Able to work independently and as a positive member of a team.
  • Fingerprinting and background check as required by the Department of Justice.
  • Valid CA drivers license, an automobile for agency travel, and proof of current auto insurance.
  • TB test clearance required every 2 years.
