SUMMARY:
Provides assistance in understanding illness and disabilities. Helps resolve personal issues. Works in accordance with company policies, the rules and requirements of applicable regulatory agencies and the standards of the profession. Enables and empowers families to negotiate educational and clinical systems and to advocate appropriately. Develops collaborative relationships with other disciplines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of the Social Worker – Children's Services will include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Participates in Initial Evaluation and Intake processes.
  • Develops initial and annual social service summary on each student on his/her caseload including appropriate recommendations.
  • Assists families in obtaining services such as housing and residential placement, food stamps, Medicaid, Assistive Technology services; respite services; family reimbursement services; camp, vacation referrals, etc.
  • Integrates therapeutic intervention techniques into school programs or home of students served through consultation with parent/Client and staff at meetings, case conferences or through other informal contacts.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews for purposes of planning, implementation and monitoring of IFSP/IEP's.
  • Facilitates communication with family and/or caregivers concerning issues such as attendance, transportation, medical status and clearance, etc.
  • Documents status of all active cases.
  • Assists with other duties such as arrival and dismissal, feeding, bathrooming and classroom management as needed.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in Social Work field.
  • Assures confidentiality of information about student and families receiving services.
  • Communicates with staff about goals, rights of persons receiving services, confidentiality, family interaction, etc.
  • Participates in activities pertaining to student transitioning.
  • Serves and participates as a member of interdisciplinary team meetings, annual reviews, parent meetings, Special Review Committee meetings, In-Services, etc as required.
  • Participates in in-service training programs as required.
  • Provides supervision and training for Social Work Assistants and less experienced Social Workers.
  • Makes regular home visits to families on case load.
  • Attends professional meetings and conferences.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Good interpersonal skills are required in order to interact effectively with employees, co- workers, students, families and outside contacts.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and knowledge of appropriate software
  • Due to sensitive nature of the position, must be able to maintain the strictest confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks.
  • Able to work flexible hours
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and the capacity to respond to unusual situations.
  • Good oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective actions

LICENSE / EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited program
  • LMSW (Not required)
  • One year of prior experience as a Social Worker preferred.
