Position Title: Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Counselor
Reports to: Operations Supervisor – Residential Services
Status: Hourly, Full-Time (32 hours per week; 7:00am – 3:30pm, Wednesday – Saturday)
Sonoma Recovery Services, LLC provides high quality residential treatment services to adults with substance use disorder. The overarching goal of the program is to assist residents in attaining and maintaining a life free from chemical dependency.
Sonoma Recovery Services, LLC (dba Olympia House) is an At-Will employer.
Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor – Residential Services, the AOD Counselor is responsible for assisting with the implementation of the clinical aspects of the residential program, creating and maintaining a recovery-based milieu, and assisting the individuals being served as needed. The AOD Counselor will provide direct services, assist with administrative duties, and support the operations of the overall residential program.

2. Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of individual treatment plans.
3. Provide one-to-one counseling and assist individuals in the development of their relapse prevention plan.
4. Ensure that all services are appropriately documented and are provided in a culturally competent manner.
5. Coordinate aftercare planning.
6. Facilitate or co-facilitate psychoeducational and adjunct groups.
7. Assist with obtaining and processing breathalyzer and urinalysis screens, as needed, following Universal Precautions procedures.
8. Provide for the overall safety of the individuals in the program, including monitoring behavioral and self-reports that indicate a medical or psychiatric concern and notifying appropriate staff or providers.
9. Develop resources as necessary for the overall operations of the program.
10. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Position Qualifications
1. Status as registered, certified, or licensed Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor with an accredited organization. Provide proof to the HR department.
2. Knowledge of the effects of drugs of abuse including intoxication and detox symptoms.
3. Either formal training or lived experience where basic skills in working with individuals with a chemical dependency were acquired.
4. Ability to physically assist individuals served in crisis.
This position is primarily office-based, involving work in an open office environment with multiple individuals. Daily requirements of the job involve walking between buildings, interacting with multiple individuals, and proximity to animals.
The position requires daily use of standard office equipment, including telephones, mobile phones, computers, fax machines, and photocopiers.
This position requires:
- Frequent lifting of 10 lbs. or less, pushing and pulling of 10 lbs. or less, sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting/turning, typing and use of keyboard
- Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs., driving a standard transmission vehicle, squatting, and kneeling.
Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work, 21 years of age or older, verification of degree/credentials, satisfactory health exam, submission of proof of California Driver’s License, good driving record, successful completion of CPR and First Aid training, and agreement to uphold all Sonoma Recovery Services, LLC Policies and Procedures.
