The Department of Psychiatry at Iowa Health Care is seeking a full-time Behavioral Health Coordinator to serve as a contact for psychiatric patients seeking Spravato (intranasal esketamine) treatment. As the Behavioral Health Coordinator, you will manage and administer intranasal esketamine to patients with treatment-resistant depression.
This position will be based at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics main campus.
This position is primarily during 1st shift, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
This position will primarily involve supervising the administration of intranasal esketamine to psychiatric patients (primarily treatment-resistant depression), including medication retrieval, patient teaching, documentation, and disposal as dictated by hospital protocols.
Maintain communication with referring providers.
Conduct phone interviews with potential patients to determine eligibility.
Administer standardized questionnaires to assess one’s level of depression or severity of side effects.
Monitor patients during administration of intranasal esketamine under the supervision of a physician.
Facilitate communication between physicians and patients regarding any concerns.
Document daily notes in the medical record for esketamine sessions and manage paperwork for FDA-required Spravato Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS).
Participate in weekly clinical meetings, where patient progress is discussed amongst the treatment team and treatment plans are determined.
Coordinate and assist patients with insurance claims and all levels of appeals process for treatment coverage and reimbursement.
Work with University web designers to develop and maintain website.
Assist with case management for patients being evaluated for interventional psychiatry treatments
May also provide coverage in other interventional psychiatry services such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
Assist with promotion of the service including assistance with presentations on esketamine to clinical audiences.
Train new technicians in the administration of Spravato (intranasal esketamine).
Maintain esketamine protocols, order supplies.
Administrative duties including prompt attention to compliance with Spravato (intranasal esketamine) REMS, insurance pre-authorization, obtaining medical records, patient scheduling, and other duties as needed.
Adhere to safety and compliance guidelines.
Study budget creation and monitoring of study finances and contracts.
Assist with procurement of supplies and materials.
May initiate purchasing requests, monitor accounts/expenditures; reconcile statements.

Education Required
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education or related field is required. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Required Qualifications
6 months – 1-year clinical experience.
Excellent verbal communication skills; including demonstrated positive interpersonal skills and experience leading and/or participating as a member of work teams and groups.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience using email, spreadsheet and word processing programs and using the internet for conducting research and locating resources.
Ability to foster a welcoming and respectful workplace environment while recognizing personal differences.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience with EPIC.
Some (6 months-1 year) administrative experience.
6 months- 1-year clinical experience working with neurology or psychiatry patients.
Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations.
Ability to complete administrative tasks autonomously, problem solve independently and tolerate unpredictability.
