A current vacancy exists for a Community Liaison in the Norristown Area School District at East Norriton Middle School.
The Community Liaison performs duties on behalf of all families who need communication in the particular language, whether or not their students participate in the ESL program.
Qualifications:
- Associates Degree or 48 Postsecondary Credits
- Bilingual Communication skills- Both English and Spanish Required
- Updated Clearances- FBI, PA Background & Child Abuse
- Facilitates communication between School District staff and language minority families and students
- Contacts parents at home in support of school staff
- Contacts district staff and officials at the request of language minority families
- Assists in the orientation of language minority families to the District; communicates registration requirements and assists in the registration process, including other mandatory student related applications (e.g. Free and Reduced Lunch application)
- Provides cultural background information to district staff and explains differing American cultural norms and expectations to parents, as necessary, in support of home and school communications
- Reports problems observed in the community that may impact District activities
- Provides interpretation for conferences with parents, IEP meetings, disciplinary hearings, medical issues, and other school district communications
- Translates and records ConnectEd calls for language minority families
- Completes written translations of District policies, school handbooks, district forms, medical letters, and other communications
- Contributes to a District translation glossary and collaborates for same with other ESL Community Liaisons
- Travels to various District facilities as needed
Schedule:
10 Month
Monday-Friday; 7 hours/day
Salary: (2024-2025 salary, prorated accordingly)
$35,621.25
