Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide intermediate level clinical social work services to patients with severe and persistent mental illness in a state psychiatric hospital. Services include assessments, treatment, and discharge planning. This position involves working with a multidisciplinary treatment team, as well as family, community, and legal resources. Under the supervision of a licensed clinical social worker, this position carries out family, individual, and group interventions. This position supports the mission of the organization through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery-oriented environment. The foundation of a recovery-oriented environment is respect and a commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible. This position is considered an Essential Emergency Employee.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Candidates must be licensed as a Graduate Social Worker (on or by June 30, 2018), Master Social Worker(on or after July 1, 2018) or Certified Social Worker by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license is obtained, submit a copy to the Maryland Department of Health Testing Unit.
  • Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
