Job Description

The Admissions Counselor III, identifies, recruits, and contributes to increasing the population of admitted, enrolled, and underrepresented students for the BSN Programs. Provides supportive services for all students. Tracks and follows up with targeted students. Screens applicants' academic credentials and qualifications for admission to the undergraduate nursing programs (Generic, LVN-BSN, RN-BSN). Advises prospective students about admission statuses, policies and office programs. Complete required admissions protocols including documentation as prescribed in the university catalog and college requirements for new students including badges, lockers and computers. Works directly with applicants and advisors to resolve extenuating circumstances, complaints, and appeals of admission denials. This position will work solely for the Office of Admissions & Student.

This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Tracks and follows up with targeted students. Screens applicants' academic credentials and qualifications for admission to the undergraduate nursing programs (Generic, LVN-BSN, RN-BSN. Advises prospective students about admission statuses, policies and office programs. Complete required admissions protocols including documentation as prescribed in the university catalog and college requirements for new students including badges, lockers and computers. Works directly with applicants and advisors to resolve extenuating circumstances, complaints, and appeals of admission denials.
  • Completes reports on programs/projects. Proposes, organizes, plans and coordinates events associated with student. Submits reports on admission to Program Directors for the generic, RN-BSN, and LVN-BSN Programs. Submits reports on maintenance of databases by Program, per semester. Submits reports on compilation of final annual reports on applications, screenings, admissions and other criteria as required.
  • Develops working relationships with Pre-Nursing Office, and other PVAMU members, departments, counselors, and advisors to enhance customer service and satisfaction. Develops an effective plan for recruiting in the assigned area(s) and schools. Disseminates admission information. Coordinate nursing recruitment events with hospitals, schools, and PVAMU Recruitment to conduct on and off campus public speaking, career and college fairs, and maintains related records.
  • Serves as back-up support staff (receptionist) for the Office of Admissions and Student Services; and perform other student support duties as assigned.

Required Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field.
  • Three years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Knowledge of admissions functions of higher education.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

Other Requirements

  • Travel required. Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
