Job Category: SpecialistDegree Level: Master's DegreeJob Description:POSITION TITLE: Elementary School CounselorHOURS OF WORK: 8 Hours Per Day/197 Calendar Days Per YearDEPARTMENT: Elementary CounselorSTATUS: Certified - ExemptPOSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for delivering district counseling curriculum and working with students in classroom, group, and individual settings.This position is expected to assist students with academic and social emotional learning concerns as well as instruct and advise students on individual and social development.This position is part of an Elementary School team and reports to Elementary School Principal.PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist with students' concerns regarding academic, emotional or social difficulties.Collaborate and consult with parents, teachers, other educators and community resources on behalf of students.Facilitate prevention programs.Provide planned, short-term and goal-focused individual counseling.Provide support and assistance to students and families in crisis and emergency situations.Refer students to community-based mental health resources as needed.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: (Add or delete as needed)​​Master's Degree in counseling.​​​Kansas Board of Education School Specialist License.​REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skillsAbility to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneouslyHigh degree of motivation, responsibility and confidentialityDemonstrated ability in compiling, organizing, and analyzing dataAbility to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced work environmentHighly collaborative team playerProficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, etc.)Ability to self-initiate areas of opportunity, make recommendations for improvement, and follow up as necessary to achieve desired resultsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position requires the performance of sedentary work- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met. This position requires frequent fingering, hearing, and talking.
