Overview

The Clinical Social Worker III provides clinical social work services to students and their families. Serves as a social work role and training model to graduate social work and counseling trainees and interdisciplinary team members; and provides direct administrative and clinical supervision to social workers and graduate students in the department and/or is responsible for some administrative leadership within the school program. Demonstrates clinical expertise in a specialty area of social work. Develops Mental Health IEP goals and implements those goals as outlined.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision and consultation to clinical social workers and graduate social work students.
  • Provides social work services to students, including psychosocial assessment and treatment/interventions, including but not limited to individual and group therapy, case management services and family therapy if needed.
  • Participates in the intake process and evaluates/assess potential students for admission to the Kennedy Krieger High School.
  • Provides appropriate documentation according to departmental guidelines, including but not limited to required IEP documentation, progress notes, Functional Behavioral Assessments, Behavioral Intervention Plans, and reports for outside agencies.
  • Participates in the development of Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavioral Intervention Plans.
  • Functions effectively within a multidisciplinary team, by advocating for client needs, participating actively in team plans, and using clear, concise, and assertive communication in written and oral form.
  • Demonstrates a competent approach to crisis management including clinical and any necessary administrative follow-up. Will appropriately document crisis intervention forms as required by interdepartmental guidelines.
  • Maintains working relationships with staff, students and their families, interdisciplinary and interagency representatives, Institute staff and visitors.
  • Collaborates and interfaces with the Educational Administrator for the program on a regular basis in order to problem solve, support on-line staff, etc. and facilitates weekly program meetings within the program.
  • Provides individual and group clinical peer supervision to clinical social workers within the program and provides individual supervision to other licensed Social Workers within the program as needed.
  • Responsible for being the on-call clinician according to the programmatic schedule/rotation (includes wearing a pager for the duration of the school day).
  • Conducts interviews of social worker candidates.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of in-service training seminars and ongoing training for staff as needed.
  • Considers cultural factors in treatment planning for students and in working with their families.

Qualifications

  • *Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by KKI.
  • *Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.
  • Must be registered as a supervisor with the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners, according to state regulation for social work licensure (requires having taken 12 Board-approved CEUs or a class in clinical supervision as part of the Masters Degree program.)

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited school of Social Work is required.
  • Must be licensed in the State of Maryland, by the Board of Social Work Examiners, Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (L.C.S.W.-C.).

EXPERIENCE:

  • The Clinical Social Worker III must have four years of clinical experience in the provision of services to children and adolescents with developmental, learning and/or emotional disabilities.
