Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Purchasing Manager who will be responsible for managing relationships with current suppliers as well as cultivating relationships with new suppliers. The manager will manage the company's spending to reduce costs, enhance profits and improve efficiency. This position will also track supplier performance to unsure quality and timely delivery from suppliers.
Duties and Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Purchasing Manager who will be responsible for managing relationships with current suppliers as well as cultivating relationships with new suppliers. The manager will manage the company's spending to reduce costs, enhance profits and improve efficiency. This position will also track supplier performance to unsure quality and timely delivery from suppliers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, procedures, terms & conditions, purchasing system, etc.
- Work with the product engineering and quality organizations to develop and define detailed supplier requirements.
- Locate vendors of materials, equipment, or supplies, and interview them to determine product availability and terms of sales.
- Prepare bid awards requiring board approval.
- Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in buying, selling, and distributing materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies.
- Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
- Review, evaluate, and approve specifications for issuing and awarding bids.
- Administer online purchasing systems.
- Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
- Interview and hire staff and oversee staff training.
- Develop cost reduction strategies and savings plans.
- Control purchasing department budgets.
- Resolve vendor or contractor grievances and claims against suppliers.
- Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability.
- Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products, or substitute materials.
- Maintain records of goods ordered and received.
- Represent companies in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers.
- Prepare reports regarding market conditions and merchandise costs.
- Arrange for disposal of surplus materials.
- Develop and implement operating strategies, plans, or procedures, organizational policies and programs
- Interview employees, customers, or others to collect information.
- Coordinate with external parties to exchange information.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in purchasing, supply chain, business, technical or related.
- MRP/ERP experience.
- Proficient in office suite
- 2-4 years of professional related experience
- Experience with FCA, GM, Ford, Volkswagen and/or Honda preferred. Experience with other automotive OEMs or tier 1 suppliers will be considered.
- High Mix – Low Volume work experience.
