About Job

Position Summary:

The Asphalt Crew Member is responsible for safely and efficiently operating equipment or performing labor associated with asphalt paving operations, including but not limited to pavers, screeds, rollers, rakes/lutes, and general site work. Team members will collaborate closely with the asphalt crew to achieve quality surfaces while maintaining high productivity and safety standards.


Responsibilities:

  • Comply with (and actively promote) all Safety policies and procedures including reporting all accidents, incidents, and near misses to ensure adherence to our Number One Core Value – Safety, first in everything we do.
  • Must be on site at scheduled start time and be present for the daily huddle and weekly Tool Box Talks.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all Middlesex safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate assigned asphalt equipment (paver, screed, roller, rake/lute) with precision and care, following project specifications and site conditions.
  • Participate in manual labor duties including raking, shoveling, and site cleanup when not operating equipment.
  • Identify potential hazards and assist in maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Maintain good health status and flexibility to bend, push, pull, stoop and/or twist.
  • Perform daily inspections of equipment to ensure functionality and report any maintenance needs immediately.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule to include day/night shifts and extended hours when necessary.
  • Understand and follow verbal instructions and project layout markings.
  • Monitor material flow and assist in achieving smooth and uniform asphalt surfaces.
  • Maintain effective communication with fellow crew members and supervisors to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Assist in job site organization and cleanliness.
  • Maintain assigned equipment in a clean and serviceable condition at all times.
  • Participate in daily project walkdowns prior to departure to ensure all work is completed to quality standards and all cleanup is finished.
