We have one exciting opportunity for Correctional Counselor at the Oregon State Penitentiary (OSP) in Salem, Oregon. This recruitment is a job rotation or workout-of-class opportunity for an approximate of 12 months. You must be a permanent employee of ODOC, OCE, or BOPPPS to apply. About The Job – Your Role
Correctional Counselor primary duties are to set the stage and elicits motivation for change in each Adult in Custody (AIC) from the beginning of their incarceration. Correctional Counselor will also administer risk assessments and build case plans based off criminogenic needs utilizing evidence-based interventions to adults in custody (AIC) with medium and high Automated Criminogenic Risk Score (ACRS). By doing so, Correctional Counselor resources are focused on AIC success by identifying the right risks and needs, utilizing the right interventions, and managing at the right level of case management. Correctional Counselors also provide basic services to low risk to recidivate AICs. Counselors are responsible for conducting daily interviews, conducting risk/needs assessments, facilitating evidenced based interventions, and providing case management, concentrating on recidivism reduction, on a one-on-one basis for AICs in custody of the Oregon Department of Corrections.
Correctional Counselors are the core correctional resource for case management and the multi-disciplinary team approach. This approach assists with building rapport between the different program disciplines within the institution and results in a holistic, systems-based approach for working with each individual AIC. Counselors are the core of Correctional Case Management.

You are required to report and document unusual incidents.

Minimum Qualifications

- A Bachelor's degree in a behavioral science or related field with major coursework in behavioral science (submit a photocopy of your college transcripts with your application) AND have two (2) years of professional counseling experience working with clientele in a social service or rehabilitative program.
- Three (3) years of experience in a social service, rehabilitative, or correctional program with primary responsibility for guiding and/or counseling individuals or groups in the solution of occupational, educational, personal, or social problems may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree.
- A Master's degree in a behavioral science may substitute for one year of the required experience.
Experience in any security series position in and of itself does not substitute for the required minimum qualifications.
