Expectations and Qualifications
Greenwood Charter School is looking for a School Based Therapist who will be responsible for providing direct mental health services year round, to Elementary and Middle school age students and their families experiencing behavioral, substance use and/or mental health difficulties. The therapist must possess strong organizational and people skills, be proficient or willing to become proficient in trauma-informed care. The therapist must have a high degree of self-motivation, initiation, and engage in approved ongoing professional development. The therapist will also provide consultation services to school staff to support the overall mental health goals of its students and school.
Job duties may include:
- Conducting bio-psychosocial assessments and social histories
- Assessing students for substance use, support systems, physical and emotional functioning, barriers to academic performance, peer issues, suicidal/homicidal ideation, and similar issues
- Developing and implementing treatment plans and discharge plans that support student self-determination
- Providing direct therapeutic services such as individual, family or group therapy regarding specific issues
- Implementing small group and individual mental health needs within the school. Working with other school staff to implement and provide services as needed, (e.g. bullying, grief, social skills, mental health needs, and divorce)
- Being part of the school’s ChAT (Child Assistance Team) to identify at-risk students and create intervention plans; and working with the behavior team to monitor the progress and success of these plans.
- Providing crisis management services, including assessing for safety
- Advocating for student services and students’ best interests
- Providing case management services including, but not limited to, referrals to community resources, collaboration with other professionals, parent outreach, home visits, and community outreach to ensure wraparound services. They will work closely with community partners to monitor implementation of multiple services to support trauma-impacted students and families.
- Providing trainings and workshops to teachers, school staff and parents
- Identifying and resolving ethical issues
- Contributing to a multidisciplinary treatment team
- Working hand in hand with our Community School Coordinators, to connect students to the services as identified by the ChAT and to monitor student progress.
- Working alongside the Comprehensive Guidance Counseling Team as an integral part of the school leadership team focusing on improved attendance, achievement, positive behavior skills and school culture.
Required Knowledge and Skills:

- Understanding of the school social worker role in the following systems:
- Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS)
- Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS)
- Special Education (IDEA)
Required Education and Qualifications:
- Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) cleared criminal background check.
- Requires one of the following:
- a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a School Social Worker License Area of Concentration;
- a valid license issued by the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or a Certified Social Worker (CSW);
- Utah licensed therapist (includes CSWi, CSW, LCSW, ACMHC, CMHC, MFTi, AMFT, LMFT) or
- verification of enrollment or completion of an accredited Master of Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), or Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CMHC) program prior to the date of hire that will result in one of the licenses listed above.
New program graduates who have not yet received their license may upload a conferral letter from their university program in lieu of their license. This letter must include the anticipated date of graduation and the specific areas in which the applicant will be licensed.
