POSITION: Head Start Teacher Aide LOCATION: Unalaska, Alaska REPORTS TO: Head Start Lead Teacher WORK SCHEDULE: 30 hours per week SALARY: $19.23 Per Hour DUTIES: Perform the duties of the Head Start Teacher Aide, including: assist APIA Head Start Teacher as requested to implement daily lesson plans; preparation and clean-up of activities, special projects, etc.; teach children appropriate health, dental, and other lessons as directed by the Lead Teacher; provide opportunities for children to develop self-mastery skills; provide safe environment for children by supervising them at all times, indoors and out; and use of appropriate discipline/guidance techniques, including redirection, acknowledgment of appropriate behavior, and setting reasonable limits. Maintain paperwork and files, conduct home visit/parent/teacher conferences. QUALIFICATIONS: At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma/GED; one year of experience working with groups of children as a childcare provider in home/center and/or volunteering in a Head Start program is preferred; physically/mentally able to work with young children and their families; and the willingness to be trained in the field of early childhood development and to engage in appropriate topical reading and individual work. Willing to achieve a Child Development Associate (CDA) preschool teaching credential within 1 year of hire. Requirements: Upon date of hire, must provide documentation of current TB test and Hepatitis screening/vaccination status; pre-employment physical examination; criminal history background clearance and be willing to obtain a CPR and First Aid Certification.
