Sunday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM and Monday through Thursday, 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM.

Sonoma Recovery Services, LLC (also known as Olympia House) strives to provide the highest quality clinical and support services to adults with a substance use disorder. The overarching goal of the program is to assist residents in attaining and maintaining a life free from chemical dependency.

Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor – Residential Services, the Residential Care Counselor (or "milieu counselor") is responsible for tracking all residents to ensure safety. The milieu counselor will use all given tools to accurately track each resident’s whereabouts in and around the OH facility regularly, respond to residents’ daily needs, and support residents in learning and following house rules. The milieu counselor will engage with all residents professionally and follow all safety protocols per Olympia House Policies and Procedures.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide for the overall safety of the individuals in the program by monitoring behavioral and self-reports that indicate a medical or psychiatric concern and notifying appropriate staff or providers.
  • Protect the rights of the individuals being served and maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Conduct and accurately document rounds within required timeframes, as assigned.
  • Answer phone calls to respond to inquiries and connect callers with appropriate parties.
  • Assist in changing rooms and completing room checks.
  • Maintain positive energy on the floor.
  • Ensure that all interactions are provided in a culturally competent manner.
  • Coordinate with treatment teams regularly should resident issues arise on the floor.
  • Document the whereabouts of all residents using tracking tools.
  • Escalate all safety issues to the Operations Supervisor – Residential Services as needed.
  • Maintain a professional and calm demeanor when interacting with all residents.
  • Utilize the electronic health record system to document clients’ items and record clients’ daily activities.
  • Support residents in maintaining and following all house rules and safety guidelines, maintain visibility in the milieu and minimizing time in the office.
  • Encourage residents to engage in the Olympia House program.
  • Meet with the Operations Supervisor – Residential Services and attend training meetings.
  • Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Position Qualifications

  • Registered or certified status with an accrediting agency (registration can be done at time of hire if needed).
  • Knowledge of the effects of drugs of abuse including intoxication and detox symptoms.
  • Either formal training or lived experience where basic skills in working with individuals with a chemical dependency were acquired.
  • Ability to physically assist individuals served in crises.

Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work, 21 years of age or older, verification of degree/credentials, satisfactory health exam, submission of proof of California Driver’s License, good driving record, successful completion of CPR and First Aid training, and agreement to uphold all Sonoma Recovery Services, LLC Policies, and Procedures.

Typical Work Environment
This position is primarily indoors-based, involving work in an open office environment with multiple individuals, group meeting settings, and one-on-one interactions. Daily requirements of the job involve walking between buildings, interacting with multiple individuals, and proximity to animals.

Equipment Used
The milieu counselor position requires daily use of standard office equipment, including telephones, mobile phones, computers, tablets, golf carts, walkie-talkies, fax machines, and photocopiers.

Essential Functions and Physical Requirements
This position requires:

  • Frequent lifting of 10 lbs. or less, pushing and pulling of 10 lbs. or less, sitting, standing, walking indoors and on uneven outdoor surfaces, bending, twisting/turning, typing, and use of the keyboard.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs., driving a standard transmission vehicle, squatting, kneeling, and walking on uneven outdoor surfaces.
