The School of the Madeleine, a K-8 Catholic school in Berkeley, CA, is looking for a caring, supportive, and dedicated school counselor. Our school is a close-knit community of students, teachers, and families, all working together to educate and guide students as they learn and grow. The school counselor’s role is to provide expertise and support to students, teachers, and parents in the area of social-emotional needs and development.
This position is part-time, working a total of 15 or so hours over two days per week during the academic school year. Candidates should hold certification, license, or degree in counseling or student support services. Pay is hourly and dependent upon degrees and experience.
School Counselor Job Responsibilities:
- Advises and counsels students, teachers, and families regarding academic, educational, and short-term social and emotional challenges.
- Provides counseling to students in individual, small group, or classroom settings to convey educational, social, and developmental guidance.
- Offers workshops/seminars for parents and teachers.
- Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student’s social and educational needs and abilities.
- Participates on a Student Success Team, identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and recommends additional services if appropriate.
- Provides brief counseling to address social and emotional concerns and appropriately refers students to behavioral health specialists.
- Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.
School Counselor Qualifications/Skills:
- Desire and ability to work with K-8 students with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals.
- Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines and communicate effectively, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.
- Working familiarity with student assessment tools, especially in evaluating and interpreting standardized test results.
Education, Experience, and Licensing Expectations:
- Licensed therapist or working towards license
- Master’s Degree in Counseling/Guidance, Education, or Social Work
- Minimum of 1 year of counseling or therapy experience

Pay: $60.00 - $75.00 per hour
