JOB SUMMARY: The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in conjunction with Clinic Director has overall clinical responsibility for monitoring recipient treatment and staff delivery of clinical services. As a PMHNP, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric care to clients, focusing on assessment, diagnosis and medication management. This position is part of small team of medical prescribers requiring flexibility to provide coverage across the behavioral health department.
WORK EXPERIENCES:
- Minimum Master's degree in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health.
- Current NYS state licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
- Minimum 1 year experience providing Medication Assisted Treatment or prior work in a substance use clinic or hospital setting.
- Holds a DATA waiver for providing Suboxone or willing to seek immediate certification.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience providing medical/nursing assessments and medication administration required
- Experience with working with a multi-discplinary team preferred
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with diverse populations in an urban setting preferred and/or community based setting

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Conduct initial and annual physical health assessments in compliance with OMH Part 599 regulations.
- Perform and document health screenings, including but not limited to:
1.Tuberculosis (TB) screening
2.HIV risk assessment
3.Substance use screening
4.Metabolic and cardiovascular monitoring for clients on psychotropic medications
- Collaborate with primary care providers for identified health concerns, referrals, and follow-ups.
- Proving management and administration of medication in conjunction with the psychiatrist. (This includes administration of injectables)
- Obtain blood specimens via venipuncture as clinically indicated to support psychiatric evaluation and medication management.
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of clients referred to the Behavioral Health clinics, including gathering medical history, assessing mental status, and conducting diagnostic interviews.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on thorough assessments, incorporating the client’s specific needs, goals, and strengths.
- Prescribe, manage, and adjust psychotropic medications as necessary, while closely monitoring the effects and side effects, in compliance with state regulations and best practices.
- Provide ongoing psychiatric medication management, ensuring regular follow-ups and monitoring treatment progress.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team consisting of psychotherapists, social workers, mental health clinicians, nursing, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic care to clients.
- Provide medication assisted treatment for eligible patients.
- Educate clients about mental health conditions, treatment options, medication management, and coping strategies.
- Provide individual and group-based interventions to individuals in the Behavioral Health Clinics
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date and timely documentation in the electronic medical records, including progress notes, treatment plans, medication records, and other necessary documentation.
- Participate in case conferences, weekly Clinic staff meetings, Incident Review Committee meetings, and clinical supervision sessions to ensure high-quality care and professional development.
- Stay current with advancements in psychiatry and contribute to ongoing quality improvement initiatives within the clinic.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines and legal standards for mental health practice, ensuring client confidentiality and informed consent.
- Assess the physical health needs of recipients and provide appropriate referrals to care.
- Consult with supervisors and doctors to decide on the best treatment plan for clients
- Provide Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner coverage for the OASAS Clinic in the absence of prescribing staff
ESAP-Related Medical Staff Duties:
- Participate as designated medical staff for the NYS AIDS Institute's ESAP program, supporting harm reduction strategies.
- Provide guidance and oversight related to safe syringe access and disposal.
- Educate clients on safer injection practices, HIV/STI prevention, and access to PreP/PEP when indicated.
- Collaborate with care coordinators and outreach teams to link ESAP participants to health services, including HIV/HCV testing, vaccination, MAT (medication-assisted treatment), and primary care.
- Ensure compliance with ESAP reporting and public health documentation requirements
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Master's degree in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health.
- Current state licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
- Solid knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, psychopharmacology, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
- Must be proficient in drawing blood and collecting specimens for laboratory testing in an outpatient mental health setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with clients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to work autonomously, demonstrating strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
- Proficient in using electronic medical records (EMR) and other relevant software systems, including computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and basic knowledge of Excel
- Understanding of OMH/OASAS regulations and standards of care and supports the team missions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Pay: $90.00 - $95.00 per hour
