Overview:

The Bronx Connect ATI Social Worker / Therapeutic Counselor works with ATI participants facing a felony. The ATI model incorporates a job training, group facilitating and mentoring approach to violence prevention with high-risk youth that have been impacted by exposure to trauma, violence and in need of positive adult role models

The ATI Social Worker is responsible for intakes, assessments and counseling of Alternative to Incarceration program participants and provides onsite and offsite counseling to participants ages 13 to 30. The Social Worker interacts with participants engaged in services in one of both of our Bronx or Manhattan locations depending on programmatic needs.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Complete intakes, psychosocial, M.A.Y.S.I., C.O.M.P.A.S., and safety assessments.
  • Engage participants in therapeutic services in office and virtual when required.
  • Conduct individual counseling and small group counseling with participants.
  • Conduct engagement field visits, crisis intervention, or home visits as needed.
  • Conduct risk & needs assessment to determine treatment recommendation.
  • Conduct substance abuse counseling sessions using 7 Challenges – Brief.
  • Facilitate and assist in the development of psycho-educational groups.
  • Make and monitor referrals for participants.
  • Provide comprehensive, clinically informed case management services to young adult defendants (and, where appropriate, their families) in collaboration with case managers.
  • Treatment goal planning that addresses client barriers with substance use, mental health, trauma, domestic violence, housing, vocational needs.
  • Develop and monitor clinical counseling plans with participants on assigned cases.
  • Interact with participant's legal team and write therapeutics court letters when required.
  • Attend court meetings when needed in the absence of court advocate.
  • Attend scheduled school case conference meetings when required.
  • Collaborate program components and sites to improve quality of services.
  • Document case notes in agency database on the status of clients for submission to the courts.
  • Assisting the ATI Site supervisor with administrative responsibilities as needed.
  • Promote work of Bronx Connect in community meetings, personal and professional contacts.
  • Collaborate with team to recruit potential participants facing felony / misdemeanor in community meetings and events, courts, public housing and jail / detention facilities.
  • Provide case management services to a caseload of youth when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • LMSW preferred, bachelor’s degree and related counseling experience may be substituted.
  • Experience working with court-involved youth.
  • Experience working with court professionals a plus.
  • Experience with drug/alcohol treatment, mental health services, co-occurring disorders, adolescent development, trauma-informed and strength-based approached preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a community-based, faith-based organization.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
