General Summary

Virtus Academy is seeking a certified School Counselor to support students’ academic progress, social-emotional wellbeing, and future planning. The counselor will work closely with students, families, teachers, and administrators to remove barriers to learning and help students reach their full potential.

Essential Job Functions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling to support students’ academic, social, and emotional needs.
  • Assist students with academic planning, goal setting, and course selection.
  • Support students with behavior concerns, peer conflict, and emotional challenges.
  • Provide guidance on college, career, and postsecondary opportunities.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss student progress and concerns.
  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to support student success.
  • Participate in:
    • IEP meetings
    • 504 meetings
    • MTSS or student support teams
  • Provide crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Refer students and families to community resources and outside agencies when appropriate.
  • Support attendance initiatives and positive school culture programs.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential student records.
  • Assist with testing coordination, scheduling, or academic planning as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events.

General Job Functions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with K–12 students.
  • Knowledge of social-emotional learning and behavior support strategies.
  • Experience in a charter or high-expectations school environment.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field.
  • Valid South Carolina School Counselor certification.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
