Job Overview
Morris County Employment and Training Services is seeking a qualified and motivated Counselor I (Employment Counselor) to assist individuals in re-entering the workforce. This role focuses on career counseling, training coordination, and providing guidance to clients to improve their employability and achieve sustainable employment.
This is an in-office position with occasional travel to other locations for meetings, trainings, and career events.
Work Schedule
- Days: Monday – Friday
- Hours: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
- Lunch: 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM (unpaid)
- 35 hours per week

- Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct weekly training orientations (in-person or virtual)
- Assess client eligibility for training programs
- Develop individualized employment and training plans
- Provide career counseling, job search guidance, and employability skills training
- Coordinate with training providers, community agencies, and employers
- Maintain and manage client caseloads and follow-up
- Review and approve client timesheets
- Enter and maintain accurate case data in required systems
- Prepare and submit reports (weekly/monthly)
- Maintain confidential client records (electronic and paper)
- Participate in job fairs, recruitment events, and outreach activities
- Represent the agency at meetings and community events
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience in human services or related field
- Valid driver’s license (may require use of personal vehicle)
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Experience in government or nonprofit organizations
- Spanish-speaking ability (not required but a plus)
- Experience with electronic signature platforms

Additional Information
This position is governed by County of Morris Department of Human Services policies and Workforce Development Board regulations. The role requires adherence to federal, state, and local workforce program guidelines.
