The Testing and Education Counselor is responsible for conducting enhanced outreach and education, HIV/STI/HCV testing, and implementation of activities that address Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). The Testing and Education Counselor will work toward developing the quality and effectiveness of the program activities to ensure that annual program objectives are met. The Testing and Education Counselor will coordinate community outreach, tabling, and educational opportunities to increase MOCHA Buffalo’s footprint in black and brown communities.
As part of the essential functions of this role, the Testing and Education Counselor:
- Assists with development of the annual outreach plan, which includes face-to-face and social media strategies, goals and objectives for reaching the target population
- Promotes and administers HIV/STI/HCV testing on site and at community outreach events with a behavioral risk assessment
- Educates and refers participants to PEP, PrEP, HIV/STI/HCV testing and treatment, care coordination, HIV and Primary Medical care; assists participants with appointment reminders if needed; accompanies participants to appointments as needed
Qualified candidate will have an associate or bachelor's degree in health related field* as well as personal or professional experience with HIV/MSM communities; must be fluent in reading, writing and speaking English (with Spanish a plus); have and maintain a current and valid NYS drivers license, verified through the NYS LENS system and the ability to travel between locations, community outreach, and program events as needed; awareness of and sensitivity to the issues and health disparities faced by underserved populations is essential
Job type: Full-time; This position requires late night shifts weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays (11a-7p) as well as periodic weekend responsibilities to community outreach and events.
Education and Experience: associate or bachelor’s degree in a health-related field*; personal/professional experience with HIV/MSM communities
*with approval of department leadership, extensive relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree
This position is posted with a salary range. The actual rate of pay offered will be based on a variety of individualized factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s skills, relevant experience, educational background, internal equity, and market considerations.
