2026-2027 Lower School Counselor

Norfolk Collegiate School seeks a compassionate, student-centered Lower School Counselor for the 2026–2027 academic year. This position supports the social-emotional development and well-being of students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5, working closely with students, faculty, and families to foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with elementary-aged students, demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills, and be committed to promoting student well-being and resilience within a school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and small group counseling to support students' social-emotional development
  • Design and deliver developmentally appropriate classroom guidance lessons
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student needs
  • Serve as a resource for faculty on social-emotional learning strategies and classroom support
  • Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide wellness initiatives
  • Support crisis response and provide guidance during student-related concerns
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with school policies
  • Participate in student support team meetings and collaborate on intervention plans

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students in a school setting preferred
  • School counseling licensure
  • Strong understanding of child development and social-emotional learning
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
  • Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment
