JOB SUMMARY

The Genetic Counselor Assistant supports the Genetic Counselors and other team members in both project work and clinical workflows. Contributes to the management of diverse aspects of the service/program including obtaining a three-generation family history, facilitating and documenting screening and diagnostic testing results, coordinating care for patients, optimizing workflows, and working collaboratively with the team to create a patient-centered and administratively effective environment. The Genetic Counselor Assistant works with the administrative, clinical, and management teams to support operations, project work, and customer service. Provides support to all functions of the team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* Assists with appointment coordination, referrals and/or scheduling, calling patients for intakes, and pedigrees ahead of clinic visit. Assists with obtaining or scanning medical records, monitoring, and responding to patient phone line/emails.
* Assists genetic counselors in drafting and/or dissemination of post-counseling documentation to clinicians, including letters of medical necessity.
* Liaisons with genetic testing laboratories regarding genetic test orders, results, authorizations, records, sample shipping, and filling out requisitions.
* Manages clinic/genetic testing supplies including genetic testing kits, requisitions forms, other clinical forms.
* Maintains clinical databases in Epic.
* Organizes of peer-to-peer reviews to appeal insurance denials.
* Assists with optimization of clinic and operational workflows and metric tracking.
* Assists with accessioning or coordinating patient samples in the laboratory.
* Performs literature searches and researches updated testing options.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor's degree or ongoing course work in biological/health science, preferably with focus on genetics.

KNOWLEDGE

* Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the job.
* Knowledge of biological/health science, preferably with focus on genetics.
* Knowledge of genetic terminology and concepts
* Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, e.g. protected health information (PHI)
* Ability to analyze information and situations, prioritize tasks, develop solutions, and make recommendations
* Ability to use good judgment and in a team setting
* Ability to adapt to an ever-changing, fast-paced environment
* Ability to solve problems and identify solutions
* Strong organizational skills
* Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
* Skill in performing thorough medical literature searches
* Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication (both verbal and written) skills
* Skill in EPIC electronic medical record application
* Strong interpersonal skills, including communicating clearly and sensitively with patients, families, referring clinicians, and research colleagues

Pay Range
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $43.40 to $49.22
