Position Overview:
Sports Leadership Arts Management (SLAM Miami) is seeking a passionate and student-centered Middle School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs of students in grades 6–8. This role is critical in guiding students through the transitional middle school years by promoting resilience, positive decision-making, and college and career awareness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and small-group counseling focused on peer relationships, emotional regulation, and academic habits
- Deliver classroom guidance lessons aligned to social-emotional learning (SEL) standards
- Support students with goal setting, organization, and study skills
- Monitor student progress (academics, attendance, behavior) and implement targeted interventions
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success
- Assist with transition planning (elementary to middle, and middle to high school readiness)
- Participate in MTSS/RTI processes and student support meetings
- Coordinate initiatives such as anti-bullying campaigns, character education, and wellness programs
- Maintain confidential student records in compliance with FERPA
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field
- Valid Florida School Counselor Certification (preferred) or eligibility to obtain
- Experience working with middle school-aged students preferred
- Strong understanding of adolescent development
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to build rapport with students and families
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Experience with SEL curriculum implementation
- Familiarity with data-driven counseling practices and progress monitoring
- Experience in a charter or urban school setting
