The Interim College Counselor supports students and families in the college admissions process, working closely with the Director of College Counseling to provide individualized guidance that aligns with each student’s strengths, interests, and goals. This role involves advising students in grades 9–12, managing application processes, and supporting school-wide college readiness initiatives.

Effective Dates: August 1, 2026- May 31, 2027


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Advises a caseload of students and their families (primarily in grades 10–12) through all aspects of the college search and application process.
  • Conducts individual and group counseling sessions with students and families.
  • Assists with developing and delivering college counseling curriculum and workshops, while taking specific ownership of 9-10 grade curriculum.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records in college counseling platforms.
  • Cultivates relationships with college and university admissions representatives; schedules and hosts campus visits.
  • Supports students applying to summer programs, scholarships, and other post-secondary opportunities.
  • Collaborates with faculty and school counselors to monitor student progress and advocate for students.
  • Assists with school reports, transcript requests, and the submission of application materials.
  • Assists with planning and presentations for families.
  • Supports and participates in evening events (e.g., parent nights, open houses) and occasional weekend programming.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and learning profiles.
  • Experience with college counseling software platforms and student information systems.
  • Familiarity with independent school settings is preferred.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in education, counseling, or a related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in college admissions or high school college counseling.
  • Deep understanding of the college admissions process and financial aid landscape.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds (e.g., college fair materials, office supplies).
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, and reaching required.
  • Ability to move throughout the campus to meet with students, faculty, and families.
  • Comfortable with extended screen time for virtual meetings, writing, and research.
