- Establish home contacts for all identified students.
- Develop parent education programs in attitudes, skills, and tasks for supporting their child's education.
- Participate in IEP's if requested as an advocate or to share information with family.
- Assist parents in understanding and utilizing school programs available to students.
- Maintain daily record of family contacts.
- Provide assistance to families in establishing an effective student support environment.
- Work with parents to make effective use of available community services.
- Communicate parent concerns to building principal where appropriate.
- Participate in staff development programs that enhance job related skills.
- Transport children and families as appropriate.
- Maintain confidential information.
- Encourage two-way communication between parent and school staff.
- Keep accurate records on any fund disbursements to clients.
- Provides written and oral reports to schools and managers as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with no more than 2 points received within the last three (3) years.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Associate Degree – Two (2) years' relevant experience may be substituted for associate degree.
- Proficiency in a language other than English, Spanish preferred
- General knowledge of school organization and programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community resources.
- Some experience working with disadvantaged adults in the community.
- Familiarity with the community in the particular school area.
- Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.

Salary
Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act this position is non-exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System. Please see linked salary scale for the full range.
