We have an exciting opportunity for an Interim Director of Counseling located at our campus in Menifee, CAUnder general direction of the Dean of Student Success, the Interim Director of Counseling plans, organizes, coordinates and manages the staff and activities of the Student Success and Support Programs. The Interim Director works with other administrators, faculty, counselors, student services staff and appropriate District committees to assist in maintaining and improving the District's implementation of the Student Success and Support Program requirements, processes and procedures. Major duties include planning and implementing department procedures, training and supervision of staff and assigning job duties. This is an administrative position, exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, with responsibility for formulation and recommendation of district policies, regulations and budget decisions related to the area of responsibility.Initial placement on the salary schedule will be commensurate with education and experience, along with a cell phone allowance stipend. Educational administrators serve under contract and make contributions toward STRS (a retirement plan). Benefit package includes comprehensive medical, dental and vision plans, life insurance, sick leave, and 22 days of vacation per year. While this current vacancy is expected at the Menifee Campus, Administrators serve district-wide and may be assigned to the San Jacinto Campus, the Menifee Valley Campus, the Temecula Valley Campus or any District facility. Additional openings that become available prior to the end of the hiring process may also be filled from the qualified applicants.This position is categorically funded and exists based on the availability of funds. If funds cease to be available, the District may, at its discretion, implement a reduction in force that could result in the elimination of the position.***This recruitment is for an interim, full-time assignment for April 2026 - June 30, 2026 (or until filled), with possibility of extension***

The omission of specific statements and duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this class.Coordinate and implement Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) activitiesCoordinate the core services of SSSP (assessment, orientation, counseling/Student Education Plan (SEP), follow-up and support servicesParticipate in the development and implementation of the SSSP Plan budget, program review, strategic plan and other institutional planningManage and validate all Management Information Systems (MIS) data related to the SSSP program; analyzes budget implicationsPlan, implement, interpret sand communicate departmental policies, procedures and regulations for administrators, faculty, students, staff and community membersEstablish and monitor work rules and procedures to assure compliance with departmental policy; establish priorities for the completion of work; prepare work schedules to meet deadlinesProvide technical guidance to clerical support staff in the immediate student services areas; assess training and development needs; hire and train permanent and temporary personnelPlan, organize, coordinate and manage office operations and activities for assigned programsGather and maintain data; prepare and submit a variety of statistical and narrative reports, studies and inquiries, both mandated and stand-alone, from external organizations and local, state and federal agenciesPrepare and administer annual program budgets; prepare recommendations and justification regarding budget requests; authorize expenditures according to District policies and applicable regulationsAct on behalf of the Dean in his/her absence, as authorizedServe on various District committees and represent the Dean on committees and task forces as assignedAssist in facilitating committees chaired by the DeanSupervise, evaluate, and review the performance of assigned staffContribute to and participate in district and campus student success in-service training programsDevelop, update and maintain all publications related to assigned programsCompose correspondence and maintain files and records related to the operations of the assigned programsMaintain current knowledge of computer systems (Colleague, Microsoft Office Suite, SARS, etc.)Initiate communication to studentsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES The incumbent should possess knowledge of: Student Success and Support & Counseling Programs and District rules, regulations, policies and proceduresThe incumbent should possess skills in: Leadership and communication in order to effectively address faculty and student issuesInterpersonal relations and conflict resolutionThe incumbent should possess the ability to: Effectively trainCoordinate schedulesAssign tasks and supervise personnelMaintain confidential and comprehensive files and recordsPossess a familiarity with academic policies and proceduresPerform technical duties of complex difficulty in the Student Success and Support Program and CounselingPrepare and perform public presentationsPerform complex multi-tasking duties that include interpreting and implementing federal and state regulations and District policies and proceduresCoordinate schedules, assign workload and provide staff trainingLearn and effectively utilize various software systems that include but are not limited to word processing, database management and spreadsheet software applicationsMake independent judgments within established guidelinesCommunicate effectively both orally and in writing using interpersonal skills with tact, patience, and diplomacy; Work effectively with other administrators to achieve common goals including student recruitment and retentionSupervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnelPrepare and administer budgets for assigned program areasEstablish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others;Prepare oral and written reports and recommendationsCollect, compile and analyze dataOperate office equipment such as computer terminal, printer, calculator, copier and facsimile machineEstablish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, including those from a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff
