Position Summary & Description

The Counseling Center at Indiana University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a temporary faculty position for the 2026-2027 academic year. The therapist will provide a variety of counseling and/or psychological services to IUP undergraduate and graduate students.

Duties:
  • Faculty provide intake, triage, individual and group counseling for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Faculty provide outreach/consultation for the IUP community, and crisis intervention services for IUP students.
  • In addition, faculty members serve on departmental and university committees, maintain licensure, and engage in scholarly activities.
  • Faculty rotate daytime on-call responsibilities.
  • Faculty members have the opportunity to supervise graduate trainees in IUP's doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology and/or Counselor Education and Supervision.
Position Qualifications

Required:
  • Graduate degree in psychology, counseling or closely related field by August 2026.
  • Currently licensed or license-eligible (within two years of appointment) in Pennsylvania.
Preferred:
  • University/College counseling center experience.
  • Work experience with people from diverse backgrounds, group work, crisis intervention, and outreach/consultation will strengthen the application.
Candidates invited to campus must communicate effectively and perform well during the interview(s); candidates will be asked to respond to clinical vignettes as part of the interview process.

Essential Functions

Non-teaching faculty must have, and maintain the physical and mental abilities, communicative skills, and stamina necessary to carry out the essential functions of their positions. Work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve standing to a significant degree, walking for brief periods of time and may include driving requirements.

Must be able to:
  1. Maintain current knowledge of the discipline through continued scholarly activity and research.
  2. Participate actively in assignments necessary to advance the service and/or outreach of the department, college, and university.
  3. Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
  4. Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the general public.
  5. Use a variety of common office machines such as telephones, calculators, copiers, computer terminals, keyboards, video display terminals, auxiliary printers, and similar equipment.
  6. Employee must be able to observe and react to hazard warnings, backup alarms, flashing lights, voice commands and hand signals.
  7. Operate office equipment which may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.
  8. Provide assistance, and guidance to internal and external customers.
  9. Follow oral and written instructions.
