Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Medical Assistant/Technician who is comfortable working with patients and has a strong science or medical background. The ideal candidate will possess solid customer service skills, strong computer proficiency, and the ability to function independently with minimal supervision. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced mental health care environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification is preferred. Prior military background as hospital corpsman or medic will be considered.
  • Previous experience as a medical assistant in a clinical setting recommended
  • Strong science or medical background with understanding of basic medical terminology and procedures
  • Prior experience working with mental health patients and complex needs preferred
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA, and other regulatory issues pertaining to medical practice
  • Strong computer skills required, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to operate basic office equipment
  • Experience with EMR systems ideal. Experience with Athenahealth is a significant plus but not necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound decisions
  • Excellent customer service skills with ability to maintain professional, compassionate interactions with patients and family members
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to coordinate effectively with patients, referring medical offices, and providers.
  • Must be comfortable working directly with patients in a clinical environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with integrative mental health treatments and clinical procedures
  • Take and record patient vital signs accurately and efficiently
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatments
  • Administer medications as directed (under provider supervision)
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of equipment and exam rooms
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with department standards
  • Verify insurance information and ensure all patient information is up to date prior to appointments
  • Perform benefits and eligibility screenings for new patients as needed.
  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments as required
  • Prepare and file patient forms and maintain organized medical records
  • Assist with pre-certification and insurance verification
  • Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary care team including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and patient coordinators
  • Assist in ordering medical lab tests and following up on results
  • Review daily clinical schedule and anticipate clinic needs proactively
  • Provide exemplary patient care and customer service at all times
  • Consistently follow policies and procedures to ensure positive patient outcomes
  • Assist with medication and supply inventory management
  • Will be trained in TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) procedures as indicated
  • Perform other duties and assume various responsibilities as determined by management

Job Context

  • All responsibilities will take place at Aloha Integrative Health in San Diego, CA
  • Facility work hours are Monday-Friday 9:00am to 5:30pm; however, individual schedules may vary

Physical Demands

  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during patient care

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

  • medical assistant: 1 year (Required)
  • pre-nursing/pre-health: 1 year (Required)

License/Certification:

  • BLS Certification (Preferred)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (Preferred)
