School Based Behavior Interventionist/ Instructional Aide

The ABRITE Organization is seeking Behavior Interventionists (BI) to provide classroom support to children 5 to 18 years of age in Santa Cruz County.

Details of the position:

The goal of the program is mainstreaming and facilitating classroom participation for learners with a variety of specialized needs, Kindergarten through 8th grade. Instruction is structured and data collection occurs on all behavior IEP goals.

The work schedule is typically Monday-Friday, T/Th, or M/W/F from 8:00am - 3:00pm.

BI School Position

- Supports student(s) by implementing outlined behavior intervention plans, reinforcement (“reward”) systems, and/or use of strategies designed to promote student participation in academic instruction

- Student behavior intervention plans address less severe behaviors such as tantruming, noncompliance, and/or verbal aggression.

- Students supported at the BI level are often, but not always, placed in general education classrooms.

Training provided:

- Initial training is approximately 12-20 hours

- Ongoing Training:

  • In-vivo observation and feedback (1-2/month)
  • Monthly group-format training (2hrs/month

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to lift and/or pull 50 pounds, with or without accommodation
  • Driving is a key requirement for this position to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the role. As such, a valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance may be required, particularly in situations where alternate modes of transportation are either unavailable or not deemed reasonable.
