Job Overview
A Safe Haven Foster Care Network (ASHFCN) is seeking an experienced Foster Care Assessor to join our team as an independent contractor (1099). This role supports foster care operations by conducting foster home assessments and home studies in accordance with Ohio requirements.
The ideal candidate holds an active Ohio LSW or LMSW license, has Ohio Adoption Assessor Certification, and brings direct experience in foster care or child welfare assessments. This role focuses on child safety, family capacity, and placement readiness within a private foster care agency setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct foster care assessments and home studies for prospective and existing foster homes
- Evaluate foster parent readiness, capacity, and home safety in alignment with Ohio foster care standards
- Apply trauma-informed principles when assessing families and home environments
- Document findings clearly and accurately using agency templates and timelines
- Communicate assessment outcomes and concerns to agency leadership
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with ethical, legal, and agency requirements
- Participate in required trainings related to foster care and child welfare standards
- Complete adoption-related assessments only when a foster placement transitions to permanency, as applicable
Required Qualifications
- Active Ohio LSW or LMSW license
- Ohio Adoption Assessor Certification (required)
- Prior experience conducting foster care assessments or home studies
- Experience working with children and families involved in child welfare systems
- Strong assessment, documentation, and professional judgment skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively as a contractor
- Reliable transportation for in-person home visits
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with a private foster care agency
- Familiarity with Ohio foster care licensing expectations
- Trauma-informed practice experience
- Experience assessing families caring for children with complex needs

Additional Information

Pay: $50,077.21 - $60,308.05 per year
