Job Title: Counselor Assistant

Reports to: Program Director

Position Summary: The Counselor Assistant serves as a primary support to fellow members of the treatment team and assists with daily program activities to ensure integrity and quality of the program's environment of care. The primary goal of the Counselor Assistant is to provide a safe, supportive environment for clients and fellow staff.

Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily; other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Assist clinical staff with tasks related to the delivery and maintenance of program services.
  • Monitor client activities, maintain awareness of daily treatment events, and assist staff and clients as needed or indicated.
  • Assist treatment team when needed with crisis intervention and de-escalation.
  • Conduct POC testing for clients as scheduled, in adherence with program policies & procedures and according to lab instruction.
  • Maintains regular housekeeping duties as designated by daily program cleaning schedule.
  • Prepare documentation & reports, including daily shift notes, according to company policy.
  • Reports any allegation or suspicion of client abuse, neglect or exploitation to management.
  • Notifies management of any program policy or procedure violations.
  • Prepares required documentation & reports according to company policies.
  • Communicates client and staff concerns to appropriate supervisors and/or administration.
  • Conducts regular rounds of facility during each shift and reports on program services, treatment environment, and client activities noted during each shift to Program Director.
  • Adheres to all company policies and procedures, including professional conduct, professional dress, attendance, and punctuality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisory Staff and/or Program Director.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience working within behavioral healthcare or medical setting preferred.

Language Ability: Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Mathematical Ability: Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Compute rate, ratio and percent, and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to follow organization policies and adhere to state/ federal regulations for the treatment of individuals with substance use disorders;
  • An understanding and commitment to protection of client rights and confidentiality.
  • Ability to seek guidance and ask for help when needed.
  • Willingness to hear constructive criticism and respond productively.

Additional Requirements:

  • Certified in CPR/First Aid or able to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Completion of initial and ongoing education/ training as required by program policies and applicable state & federal regulations.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs., walk the premises throughout the day, sit/stand for approx. 8hrs day/ 40 hrs a week, climb stairs, and work outdoors as needed.
  • Candidates with a personal history of substance use must have, at time of hire, a minimum of one year in maintained recovery/abstinence from substances. Candidates should demonstrate a stable recovery lifestyle.
  • Previous clients of Longleaf Recovery and Wellness may become eligible for employment after one-year from final date of discharge from program services.
  • Must submit to and pass a criminal background screening with no substance-related charges incurred within 2 years prior to date of hire and no history of violent offenses.
  • Submit to pre-employment drug screen as well as random drug screening (at least 1x annually) during employment.

Pay: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
