Position Overview

As the primary caregivers for each camper in their group Owlet Camp Counselors must be fun, dynamic and safety-conscious. Camp Counselors plan and implement daily schedules, lead activities and songs, coordinate with co-counselors, and communicate with parents.

All staff at Camp Kingfisher are hired to:

lead campers as a positive, caring role model
provide campers with fun, positive outdoor learning experiences
help campers grow and learn through challenges

Essential Functions

Supervise the Owlet group, 4 year olds, in an outdoor setting
Lead camper activities with excellence and enthusiasm
Develop and implement environmental education activities (hikes, animal demonstrations, science exploration activities) on a daily basis, program resources provided
Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff
Clean camp facilities as needed/required
Handle captive wildlife daily in camp programs
Attend weekly camp staff meetings and trainings
Assist in program areas as directed
Contribute to verbal/written evaluations and communication as requested
Keep track of and recording hours worked, requesting director’s approval for any additional hours prior to work
Complete additional duties as assigned

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Willingness to work outdoors during the summer season
Must be able to lift over 20 pounds

Valid driver’s license or state issued ID
Current tetanus shot or willingness to obtain one

Skills

Experience (and passion for) teaching or working with young children
Comfortable in an outdoor setting
Background in environmental education, natural history, education, child care, or camps
Willingness to handle captive wildlife, training provided
