Position Overview
As the primary caregivers for each camper in their group Owlet Camp Counselors must be fun, dynamic and safety-conscious. Camp Counselors plan and implement daily schedules, lead activities and songs, coordinate with co-counselors, and communicate with parents.
All staff at Camp Kingfisher are hired to:
- lead campers as a positive, caring role model
- provide campers with fun, positive outdoor learning experiences
- help campers grow and learn through challenges
Essential Functions
- Supervise the Owlet group, 4 year olds, in an outdoor setting
- Lead camper activities with excellence and enthusiasm
- Develop and implement environmental education activities (hikes, animal demonstrations, science exploration activities) on a daily basis, program resources provided
- Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff
- Clean camp facilities as needed/required
- Handle captive wildlife daily in camp programs
- Attend weekly camp staff meetings and trainings
- Assist in program areas as directed
- Contribute to verbal/written evaluations and communication as requested
- Keep track of and recording hours worked, requesting director’s approval for any additional hours prior to work
- Complete additional duties as assigned
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Willingness to work outdoors during the summer season
- Must be able to lift over 20 pounds
- Valid driver’s license or state issued ID
- Current tetanus shot or willingness to obtain one
Skills
- Experience (and passion for) teaching or working with young children
- Comfortable in an outdoor setting
- Background in environmental education, natural history, education, child care, or camps
- Willingness to handle captive wildlife, training provided
